Has anyone ridden a motorbike London-Beijing via russia? What bike? any hints?
I am looking at doing a trip with a cpl of friends, we are wanting to go London- Beijing or even on to Bangkok via Russia and Mongolia. We originally started planning this trip almost 6 years ago, then with life and all, we just dropped it, now a few things have changed and we are looking at making a go of this. Basically looking for any hints people can give, but most of all does anyone have a suggestion on what bikes to use?
We would LIKE to use BMW GS 1150/1200 Adventure models (same as those used in Long way round/Long way down) however the cost of these bikes may be prohibitive for a member of our group, does anyone have any ideas on another bike that we could use for this trip?

Please consider the Kawasaki KLR 650. This bike has been ridden around the world by many. Others have used the smaller 650 GS or the newer 800 GS.
Another source of a information for an adventure trip is Adventure Rider. This web forum is full of information pertaining to adventure riding.
This looks like a trip of a lifetime. A trip like this will provide a lifetime of memories.
