what could cause hesitation while accelerating on a 1987 BMW K100 RT?
I was riding yesterday in 3rd gear went to accelerate bike hesitated and then jerked. Stopped bike, turned off, restarted, idled and rode about another mile home with no issues. Could it be the fuel pump? Level was about 1/3 of a tank left.

there is really only one reason your bike would hesitate and that would be intermittent fuel delivery. Your carbs may need to be cleaned, adjusted or rebuilt. The fuel filter may be clogged or partly clogged (change it regardless). make sure you have the proper fuel pressure from the fuel pump. Make sure you don't have anything floating around it the fuel tank that may block fuel from running through the fuel valve
