BMW Convertible top won't go down. Looking for help.?
I tried to put down the convertible top on my 2002 330ci today and the windows started to go down as they do when putting the top down. The top started to lift up and then it just froze and would not go up or down. I have checked the fuses, the luggage compartment in the trunk is where it should be to allow top to open etc. I also tried unhooking the battery for awhile and reconnecting it. Still not having any luck. To anyone that has a bmw convertible or knows about these, do you have any idea of what this could be? Thanks
Answer:
Usual issue is failing tension straps.(Similar to a bungee cord attached to the top frame under the cover) If the top gets to the partially open point- grab the rear of the top- fold it forward by hand until it stops- then continue activation. Be sure the top doesn't get caught on the top cover. Other issues are failing switches for the rear bow (position sensor) or top cover latches / latch motor under the bottom of the rear seat.
