My car has an alterered VIN, all the obvious spots have been altered. What can I do to find the real VIN #?
It's a 1998 BMW 528i. Car fax and several other organizations (NYC police) show the vin as non existent. The VIN under the hood on one of the columns was obviously rubbed out and etched in again quite roughly. The one in dashboard has been removed, the stickers on the driverside door and behind the rear license plate look like pretty well done fakes with the same invalid VIN. Should I just take it to a mechanic to see if they can find the VIN # themselves? Any other advice?
Also, I do have another piece of info. There was a sticker on the windshield for the registration in Massachussets. It was orange, had a big # 7 in the background, was dated for 2004, and had another number , 02331631. i've sent this info to the Driver Registry deprtment in Mass to see if they can help.

how and when did you get car if you bought from private pearson you have to prove fraud does title match other # on car ? i think what you will find is car is mass recovered theft or police auct sale which is why it has other numbers how was this registered or did you just get car lots ? if you got from dealer new or used and he did not tell you or you did not sign paper that said you knew about numbers being altered you need to call ag in mass or your att. i am not att so i can not advice you about this other bmw # on frame stiffeners and bu gas tank you did not give enough further in to you promblem bmw engine # are in real title what # on your title and what state ? email me if you need more help
